Taffeta is a weft-way rib cloth. It is prepared by using a slightly thicker
weft than warp. Wool taffeta is produced from worsted yarns. The stiffness
of the fabric depends upon how closely it is woven. Hand woven taffeta is
the best.
The word 'Taffeta' has been derived from a Persian word 'Taftah', which
'Twist'. Taffeta has originated in Persia (Iran) in the 16

century. Then, it was made from silk or linen. It used to be a luxury cloth
for women and was used in all types of women's wear.
