is split away from the upper, or the grain layer. The leather is split
during the tanning process. It is usually given a suede or pigment finished.
It is buffed to make the surface smooth. A coating of urethane is applied to
make it more tough and uniform.
Split leather is usually thick and stiff with a much firmer feel. Sometimes
embossing and color are applied to create unique looks but imprints with
heavy details are difficult to achieve. It is economical than other types of
leather.
