Silk fabric, one of the higher grade fabric known for its
softness, luster, beauty and luxurious look. It gives comfort in all types
of weather and is the best natural fabric in the world. Indian silk is
popular worlwide because of its sheer variety of designs, weaving and
quality. The most valued is the Thai silk.
Different textures are created with silk fabric according to the use.
Summer textures are different from that which is worn in cold climates. In
menswear, the fabrics are light with subtle textures. The following are some
of the silk fabric textures.
- Brocade Fabric - It has a
raised and embossed texture and is widely used in a satin background
with metallic threading and embroidery.
- Crepe Fabric - The texture
of crepe ranges from fine, flat to pebbled and mossy effects.
- Chiffon Fabric -It has crepe
like texture as the threads are twisted and then woven. It has slightly
rough feel and bumpy look.
- Faille Fabric - It has a
corded effect with a noticeable cross-wise flat ribs.
- Georgette Fabric - It
is crisp with some body and firmness. It has a dull creped surface with
a grainy texture.
- Matelassé Fabric -
The fabric's pattern gives a quilted puff effect.
- Peus de Soie - It is a
stout, soft silk with fine cross ribs.
- Organza Fabric - It is a
crisp and sheer plain weave fabric with fine texture and a very slight
sheen finish. It crushes or musses easily but is easily pressed.
- Broadcloth Fabric - A fine,
tightly woven fabric in a plain or twill weaves with a slight horizontal
rib.
- Charmeuse Fabric - The back of
the fabric is a flattened crepe with a dull appearance while the front
is a shimmery satin weave. It is made of high twisted yarn with a
flexible finish.
- Taffeta Fabric - A crisp,
tightly woven fabric with a fine, crosswise rib.
- Damask Fabric - A cloth of
various fibers characterized by a flat and reversible woven Jacquard
design combining plain and satin weaves, generally in one color.
- Velvet Fabric - A warp-pile
fabric with a soft, sturdy face created from dense loops that may or may
not be cut.
- Chenille Fabric - Fabric with a
fuzzy texture woven of a soft-tufted silk or cotton fiber.
- Tulle Fabric - It is either
gauze, knotted or leno and is woven on a lace machine. The fabric is
very light and stiff having a hexagonal mesh.
