Kid leather, also known, as kidskin is the skin of young goats, usually less
than a year in age. It is of fine grain and supple and typically available
in black, gray and white. The leather is widely used for its tenderness and
smoothness. It is slightly softer and tougher than the leather obtained from
cow. It is usually available in the lightest of weights.
"Kid" is a common term used for soft leather. It was used to make
French and German fashion doll bodies. Kid leather is also often used in
making of antique dolls and older doll bodies. Shoes made of soft kid
leather gives amazing comfort and a sensual feel to the delicate feet and
toes. Gloves constructed from Kidskin leather are incredibly soft and
supple.
All Kidskin leather does not always come from young goats. It is rather
obtained from less valuable animals like rats.
