linen fabric after all?
What is Linen Fabric?
Linen is the natural fabric made from fibers
derived from the strongest plant fibers- the flax. Flax fibers are obtained
in two varieties- longer line fibers and shorter tow fibers. The long flax
fibers are spun into yarns for making linen fabrics, most of which is used
for making ultra cool clothing and high quality textile furnishings. Shorter
flax fibers are made into heavier yarns that, in turn, is spun into linen
fabric which is used for making such items as kitchen towels, sails, tents
and canvas.
What are Benefits of Linen Fabric?
The cool summer fabric linen is
much stronger than the other popular natural fabric- the cotton fabric.
There are many other benefits of the soft linen fabric.
- Linen fabric is a good conductor of heat and that's why it is so
cool.
- Linen fabric has natural shine with shades of ivory, ecru, tan, or
Grey. Linen is never found in pure white color. If you find one, then it
is a heavily bleached linen fabric.
- Linen fabric is crisp and has textured feel ranging from stiff and
rough to soft and smooth. Know more about

- Linen fabric is highly absorbent fabric and can rapidly lose water,
provided it is manufactured with the right technique. This is why it is
good for summers as it can efficiently deal with perspiration.
- Linen fabric is very durable and strong. An interesting fact is that
it is more stronger when wet.
- Linen fabric is also abrasion resistant as well as resistant to moths
and carpet beetles. This makes linen a perfect home furnishing fabric
too.
- Linen fabric can be cared for very easily. It naturally resists dirt
and stains. It doesn't tend to have lint or pills on its surface too.
Linen fabric can be dry cleaned, machine washed or steamed without
worrying about any damage to the fabric.
The only concerning issue about linen fabric is that it has poor elasticity
and wrinkles very easily. It also wears away fast if folded and ironed at
the same place repeatedly like at collars, hems, and any other area that is
iron creased during laundering. However, when benefits of linen fabric are
counted, this limitation doesn't stand anywhere. So, go ahead and find some
superb linen fabric for making your summer clothes!
